2010 Olympic Torch Relay

Today was the first day for the Olympic Torch Relay. The plane carrying the flame arrived 90 minutes late from Greece (headwinds and Greek air security). This leg of the relay was at Elk Lake where it was warm but very windy. Thankfully the rain held out. The torch was handed off to the rowing Men's Eight. They handed off in the middle of the lake to the junior eight team. It was very cool to be there and witness it.

Helped a friend move

As we moved items into the house, this little critter just moseyed on past munching on the greenery. They moved into a house in Cordova Bay and the deer are aplenty.

Fall colours

Two of the nice tree's in their fall clothing. Debra and I took a leisurly walk along the Gorge waterway (our usual haunt as regular readers will recognize) and took these snaps.

Food Bank Challenge

The City of Regina and City of Victoria faced off to collect the most food for the local food banks from Friday morning to Saturday 6 pm. Overall food bank donations have been well below normal this year and it is a kickstart towards the winter season. Debra and I brought bags of food to the Ogden Point drop off and then were offered a cup of soup that was amazing (despite containing brussel sprouts). The results have not been published on the winning city as of writing.

Rainy, rainy, rainy day

I needed to clean out gutters and downspouts in the pouring rain this morning. The rain has been non-stop since Thursday night. Apparently it will be sunny on Sunday. YAY!

Chemainus murals

Just three of the many murals in the little town of Chemainus. It is situated between Duncan and Ladysmith off of the Trans Canada Highway. We were looking for Antique shops and they have a few nice ones. It was a beautiful sunny Thanksgiving and we enjoyed the quietness of the roads and shops in the morning.

Quiet Gorge waterway from the Selkirk Trestle

Every few weekends, Debra and I take a nice long walk along the Galloping Goose to the inner harbour. We cross the Selkirk Trestle which spans the Gorge waterway. This morning the water was so still it was a mirror image of what was above.

Debra and I were signed up to do the tandem Lakewater Level 1 course together and I was to do the solo Level 2 on Sunday. Unfortunately, Debra put her back out and was not able to participate. We will do the tandem course together the next time they offer it. I continued on with the program on my own and both the weather and my body cooperated. (albeit with some sore muscles today) The Level 1 course was held on the Gorge waterway where the clubhouse is located. We went to Thetis Lake for the solo course. This is in preparation for a trip that I will be taking with three friends next year. In a few weeks time, I will be taking the "Moving Water" Level 1 (tandem) & 2 (solo) courses.
