Chuckle of the day

Debra and I were on one of our morning walks and we passed an apartment building on Gorge road that is undergoing some renovations. We both got a chuckle from this sign.

We had a nice visit with Mom & Dad R on the weekend. Debra and I drove up on Saturday night and returned Sunday afternoon to Victoria. We went to church at the Island Gospel Centre where M&D attend.

We are being spoiled by the beautiful fall weather. Half way thru October and the weather forecast is for another few days of sun and temperatures around 15 during the day. However, we have been warned that La Nina is on the way!!

A painter we know..

As we were returning from our Saturday morning breakfast at "The Pickle", we saw this guy painting this boat at Point Hope Shipyards (part of our regular walking route). He is the father of a boy that Clayton has played soccer with over the last few years. He mentioned this is his third trip down to paint the boat as they are in an out of the drydock quickly, so he did not want to miss it.

The sign says it all

All 33 miners in Chile have been successfully brought to the surface after 69 days trapped underground. There was not a lot of hope early after the mine collapsed, but God had other plans. The screen grab is of the jubilant rescuers waiting for their turn to be brought back up after the last miner was safe on top.

Our regular Saturday morning walk

This is called the Janion building. Most local Victorians know of this abandoned building right on the water next to the Railway station. It has been empty for 31 years. Many businessmen have shown keen interest in the property. The story goes that it is owned by an old lady who refuses to do anything with the property because of a grudge she continues to carry on through her deceased husband.

This development is called Dockside Green and was built about four years ago. It has been interesting to watch this area being built over the years. We really like this particular front yard, very European don't you think. There are still a couple more phases to go but are on hold till the market picks up. We stopped for a coffee just a few steps from this picture. Very active little spot with an amazing bakery beside it.

Lunch at The Blethering Place - Oak Bay Village

Debra, Trista and I spent the afternoon in Oak Bay browsing in shops and having tea and lunch at The Blethering Place. It is on Oak Bay Avenue and is the oldest building in Oak Bay having been built in 1912.

Bastion Square - after breakfast

The photos above are from Bastion Square which is between Government and Wharf Streets in downtown Victoria. Nice tourist area with good restaurants and interesting places to visit (such as the Maritime Museum).

There was another rowing competition on the gorge waterway as we were walking downtown for breakfast.

The house that burned down

Debra and I were doing our morning walk and saw the clearing of the burned house. If I can find the link to the original post showing this house I will. It will be interesting to see what goes back and when.
