Victoria vs Edmonton on a Monday morning

In Victoria, we woke up to wind and lots of rain.  It is supposed to be this way for a good part of this week.

Murray sent this picture of the lovely fall colours turning in Edmonton.

THE opening faceoff to welcome the WHL back to Victoria

WHL hockey is back in Victoria after a 17 year absence.  The old Victoria Cougars relocated to Prince George the first year we moved to the island and we have been without ever since.  To fill the hockey void, we had/have a Junior A team called the Grizzlies.  For the last 6 or 7 years we have had the Victoria Salmon Kings playing in the ECHL.  Now, we have back in town the Victoria Royals and the home opener was a sellout.  Very loud and enthusiastic crowd.  Lots of fun and they won the opener 5-3 over the Vancouver Giants.

A French Touch

Deep Bay Sunset

We spent this past weekend up island.  On Friday night, Debra went to a baby shower for little Malakai (Josh and Jamie's new son)  Josh is Debra's brother Ron's oldest son.  We stayed at Mom and Dad R's and later that evening we were witness to a showing of the Northern Lights.  Pretty cool!  On Saturday, we hit a few garage sales and spent some time at Mark and Linda's (Debra's sister) store in French Creek.  Saturday night we spent in great conversation with M&D and we came home Sunday. The weather was very hot which made for a beautiful sunset.  The picture really did not do it justice. 

Old Water tower - Qualicum Bay

We were out garage saling on Saturday morning and got way off the beaten track.  Neat to come across this old water tower that we just had to get a couple of pictures of.  

Woohoo!!

How often have you witnessed your odometer ticking over to 200,000 km.  Our Honda Accord has served us very well since we bought it in 2000.  It had about 76,000 on it.

Roadside find

 Debra's friend Margaret keeps an eye out for any good pieces of furniture for Debra to refinish and a few weeks ago Margaret and her girlfriend found this piece of furniture for free on the side of the road.
The piece was in very bad shape, the picture above is after all the repairs and sanding.

 ....and this is the after.

Several pieces of the original hardware were missing, but Debra had bought these years ago at a Garage Sale.  They are of the same vintage and style as  the original, so these really suit this piece.

This is the label on the back.  Neat hey?  This was originally intended for resale, but we like the piece so much it just might have to stay. :)
