One of our local lakes which has a great beach and good swimming. It has trails all around it which Debra and I walked today.

School's In

September has started very much like the summer has been. Warm and sunny. Although you can feel that fall is coming with the cool nights.

One night of rain a few days back has been it. The gardens, lawns and trees have suffered another dry summer.

Clayton is back to school entering Grade 10. Kinda strange only having one in school now.
League soccer has started for him again as well. Back into the routine.

The house painting is all but done for the year. Bits of trim and some paint around a few windows still needs to be completed, but that is all. It is very satisfying seeing the results of your labour.

After a summer of very little regimented training, I have started (and Debra will be joining me) the walk/run program again to ease back into running. Still having achilles problems and I have a rib out that gives me some localized back pain, but all will be well I am sure.

The long term goal is a possible marathon next year (for me), but in the short term, it will be the Times Colonist 10K in 2007.

I have another cousin moving into town. Julianna, daughter of Bill and Marion is moving to Victoria with her boyfriend Scot.
That will be three cousins with Mike B, Colin W and Julianna MC. Cool.

Karma feeling better

Nothing like a warm windowsill to lie on.

What a week!

Scraping and painting. The majority of what we wanted to paint is done other than some trim around windows. The front steps are going to be replaced, so we will paint that area when that is complete. Our friend Gord (KZ1000) has offered to help me build them.
Clayton has had a busy week working at Gord's place down the street cleaning up, taking down fences etc. They bought the place a number of months ago and are now totally redoing the inside and outside.
Because I had the week off, Gord said to keep the bike for the week. Trista loved it as I drove her to work for four mornings and picked her up three times at the end of the day. The route we took was along Dallas Road (skirts the Ocean), a very beautiful drive.
On a sad note (but getting better) Trista's kitten Karma was attacked by the dog next door. He had her in his mouth and shook her about. She suffered a tear in her trachea which caused a condition called subcutaneous emphysema (air under the skin). She spent a night in the animal hospital (the neighbour is paying the bill) and is now on the mend.
It was very distressing for the whole family. (and the neighbours too, they are really nice people)
Today Uncle Dave dropped in with a whole bunch of peaches. He was on the 7 am ferry heading over to pick up Colin and his friend Calum. They are leaving tomorrow for the interior and a few days hiking on Crater Mtn. It was great to see you again Uncle Dave! Thanks for the delicious peaches.
Tomorrow is Sunday and a welcome day of rest.
